Sustainable Development Goal 13 relates to Climate Action. Goal 13 has numerous objectives that are relevant to our sector:
- Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards and natural disasters in all countries
- Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning
- Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction, and early warning
- Promote mechanisms for raising capacity for effective climate change-related planning and management in least developed countries and small island developing States, including focusing on women, youth and local and marginalized communities
These objectives and their corresponding indicators predominantly relate to public policy, however Impossible Metals also aims to contribute in the following ways:
- Measuring and reporting our GHG emissions annually
- Implementing a pathway to net-zero by the commencement of production, including the setting and reporting of interim targets to measure our progress
- Improve education and awareness-raising by transparently publishing our scientific data, encouraging independent publishing by scientists who work together, and, as we expand into other communities, working with educational institutions to further the scientific knowledge of the seabed environment
- Working with our host nations to develop and implement climate-change related infrastructure, including (where relevant) renewable energy infrastructure and climate resilient port infrastructure
As we move into broader community settings, we will work with government and community partners to contribute both financially and in-kind to meaningful, effective projects that align with the needs of the community and the relevant government framework. We anticipate reporting the first measurements of our GHG emissions, and our preliminary plan for achieving net-zero in our 2022 Annual Report.
