Unfortunately Indigenous people are often forced to relocate due to land-based mining activity. Many countries have adopted the U.N. Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) which requires free, prior and informed consent (FPIC) from Indigenous groups for mining projects, but this represents a huge challenge in getting land-based mines approved.
